His Word, Our Daily Bread
When I entered into this new season of motherhood, I realized how much I compartmentalized my relationship with the Lord. Because I was no longer able to count on always having my hour alone with the Lord in the morning due to the needs motherhood brings, I began to spiritually starve myself for those first couple months of motherhood. That is, I wasn’t seeking the daily bread, His Word, that the Lord so willingly provides to nourish us spiritually through our day.
I eventually realized how I was not recognizing His constant presence and also not believing that I could read just one scripture and meditate on that for the day. I began to shift my mindset to recognize His constant presence. I started to bring Him and His Word into everything throughout my day with my son and wow, the power that brought!
Before motherhood, I had still incredible intimate times in His presence and studying His Word in the morning. The Lord is so faithful and He still met me there, even though I had a tendency to leave Him there. Most days, I would carry out my busy day, barely thinking of Him or dwelling on what I learned when studying His Word.
I am so grateful that motherhood has taught me to acknowledge and be in His constant presence and ask Him through the day, what do you want to do Lord? What do you want to teach me Lord? How can Your Word apply to my life today? One way I maintain that mindset of recognizing His constant presence and the power of His Word, is by reading the Lord’s Prayer.
Matthew 6:9-15 NIV
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“ ‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one. ’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
